I am using this picture as an example not becasue I need this reproduced.

I need to take am image and be able to do a skull or smiley face or whatever, kind of like a faded edge powerclip.

I'm pretty sure that I could do it with say a square or circle, but I'm running into a problem (mentally) figuring out how to make the fade in different areas, like they've done on the eye sockets and teeth.

I'm using X6.

Maybe with the transparency tool?

This will be easier in photopaint rather than in DRAW yet can be done in either program.

Depending on the art will determine which prog to use for easiest manipulation.
