How to use a design not created using a program

Sorry if the title of this thread is obscure. What i'm trying to say is what if I want to use artwork that is drawn, painted, etc., and not created using a program to print on a shirt. Will a high resolution image of the artwork suffice? Any help would be great, thanks!

If you can get the image areas to print as solid black on a sheet of film, you can burn a screen for it.

Yes, we use both scanners as well as DSL cameras to get the art onto the computer. Works great!

Great! I assumed this was possible I was just uncertain if this was the "correct" way. When photographing the art do you use a RAW image format?

Yes, we typically take all photos in RAW format.
If you can take it outside with good natural light, if you dont have a light box or something like it.
