How to unload shirts fast?

1670 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jdr8271
My silk screener botched a color on my latest run of shirts (he used magenta instead of the hot pink PMS color I chose), but insisted that the error was mine for not selecting a PMS color. I don't want to get into that right now. I ended up buying the shirts from him and I'm trying to find a way to liquidate them fast. I have put up an auction on Ebay, but I was wondering if there were any other methods that are recommended?

is your company logo/name on them anywhere, is the design something you will be selling at full price with other new shirts you make ? if so, cut the tags to let peeps know they are seconds being sold at a reduced price.

find a local jobber to buy them all. :)

btw, when we screw up with the printing, we re-make it the right way and offer the client first option to buy the screw ups at our cost price. Most of the time they take them for give aways to friends etc....
I like your policy Lucy. That's good business.

PvN Captain, I doubt that I would have took those shirts without a way to move them. At least not at full price. However that doesnt answer your question. It would help to know what the design was to know how to proceed. By that I mean is it a logo design or a generic design?

Here's the Ebay auction. The shirts are black Hanes Sliver for Her with a two color print on the front of a pirate lady standing next to the text "Pirate Chicks Kick Arse".

The reason why I took the shirts off of the silk screener is because it's my first time using this guy's services and I feel that there was a lot of miscommunication. Even though I stated everything I wanted from him, he found wiggle room in my instructions. Plus, I know that I can sell the shirts as they are at their intended venues, but I really wanted hot pink instead of magenta. So I figured I'd buy them, then try to blow them out and reprint with the right color. Worst case scenario is that I sell a shirt I'm a little dissatisfied with, but it still quite salable.

For the record, I learned a lot about how to deal with this screener from this experience and I won't be repeating any mistakes or miscommunications. PMS colors for life!

I totally understand learning from ones mistakes. I hope things turn out great.
I would try using your existing website traffic/email newsletter/ebay to sell the shirts at a discount or as a "limited edition" item :)

Or you could hold them for an upcoming show or event.
You can offload some of them as marketing tools.

EX: TShirtReview.com, etc.
If there is nothing wrong with them besides the color, I don't see why you can't just sell them the way they are. I saw them on the Ebay auction earlier and they looked just fine. Honestly, most of your customers are not going to know the difference between "magenta" and "hot pink" - as long as the design is nice and the quality of the print is ok.
The screen printer should have asked you what pms color you wanted. That is standard practice with the companies I use, unless you are using a standard color like navy, athletic gold, white, etc.. What is the link to the ebay auction. I did a search and I couldnt find the auction.

Selling bulk lots on ebay will not give you a good return. You probably won't get back what you paid. At least that is my experience. I only unload big lots on ebay when I am desperate to get rid of misprints. If its just the ink color, I dont see the big deal.
