In addition to deleting nodes, is there an alternative to making this banner have smooth lines?

I would check the clipart you have with Corel Draw.....Might one in there.....

Deleting nodes probably takes longer and results aren't that great either. Re-trace it or find similar clip art.

As Johnny and Joe said, redrawing this (hand tracing) with the bezier tool is the best way to achieve smooth lines. Use your spiral tool for the rolled up parts and use all cusp nodes to shape the lines, then convert to curve nodes as necessary.

There is a learning curve to drawing with the bezier tool, and it takes practice. Unless this is a rush job, I'd suggest taking a couple of hours to work with vector lines to trace your sketch and familiarize yourself with the way the tools work, You will be glad you took the time to learn to use it...
