I have an image that i want just black ink to print. I tried cmyk with only 100% k, but viewing raw data in fastrip shows color on each channel, then changed image in photoshop to mono and got the same thing (color in each channel in fastrip). The main reason for just black is in the past i've had black turn greenish after a few washes.

Typically the RIP gives you better control over what you print. CMYK with 100% K and 0 on others doesn't always end up like that. You can take an image in Photoshop, for example, and convert the black with this method. Then select the eye dropper tool and choose the black and it will no longer be 100%, but a mix. This happens if your image is in RGB. If it's in CMYK, you can retain the 100% Black. The problem, though, with dtg printing is 100% black doesn't look as good as a stand alone color. I'm not sure if your RIP is doing it or if your image is not retaining the 100%, but if you print only black, you'll see a big difference.

Hey Jerid, thx for the reply. So your saying its better to have all colors print to help black and not as good to print pure black? I'm ok with that except CMY must sit on top of black (do you know if black is first color down on an epson 4880 type printer?). maybe i just have a curing problem with some of the blacks turning greenish after a few wash's.

The greenish probably would be wash out. Try double passing these settings for black. There are several posts regarding true black and it is a combo of CMYK. If you double pass remember to press like a dark shirt.
make sure your nozzle checks are 100%

C=45 or C=60
M=45 M=40
Y=45 Y=40
K=100 K=100

350 degrees

-prepress if moisture in the area
-10 seconds with Teflon/Parchment Paper
-Print
-Hover 30 seconds no paper
-Full Pressure Press 60 seconds with Teflon/Parchment Paper
Release Paper to release steam
-Full Pressure Press 60 seconds with Teflon/Parchment Paper

Not really much you can do. The RIP takes a 100%K and makes it a CMYK mixture.
Tiff vs. EPS may make a difference.
In FastARTIST, manually make it 100%K.

All RIP's do this, and it is frustrating.
Not the FastArtist/RIP expert, was mostly involved in creating the ICC profiles involved and MFG. QC for the Blazers.
It can be done, but you have to figure out how to assign 100%K
and get the RIP to accept that.

In FastArtist, you have the color blocks on the bottom.
One of them is 100%K. You will need to assign that color
to your image.

Hope I gave you some info to start looking.
Lookup I believe "caddave" or something like that name.
He is from England, and was the programmer for FastArtist/RIP
and works for Cadlink, who adapted their software for US Screen
for their DTG machines. He is a very knowledgable programmer
and THE expert on these issues. He is on the forum here.

Best of luck

Michael
