Okay, say someone gives you their logo and they want it in a shirt.
It has full color already on it. What is the fastest and easiest way to separate the colors to put them on vellum? I have illustrator. I feel like I have to trace out the entire logo. There has to be an easier way.

Also, what is the best type of document to get? (jpeg, pdf, ext)

If you have illustrator, then that is the best type document to get. Then there is no conversion necessary.

What type of file did your client give you? If other than a vector, you should ask them if they have it in vector.

think you would set up a cymk document in illustrator, place your image, trace it and then assign it spot colors then go have your film made

or did I misunderstand the question?
