How much to sell a design for another company logo use?

Hello there,

I found a company that is not a clothing company but a food truck that has used my copyrighted graphic in their logo.

I reached out to them and they are very understanding and didn’t realize it was copyrighted. They asked what I would charge as a one time fee to allow them to use my graphic as their logo.

I’ve never been in this postition before. I’ve had lawyers involved with other companies selling my designs on shirts. That was easy to put a stop to. However this one is unique because it’s a logo, not a competitor and they are willing to comply and work with me.

Thoughts?
Thanks,
Lorne

logo goes from 100 bucks up on crowd sourcing platforms.
Just some thoughts & some things to consider - since it’s a one time payment for you- consider if they expand there business to b&m or more trucks, it’s on their caps shirts etc - their brand is your image - i think it has value I’d think $500 is good place to start, of course unless they are friends or start-up maybe less
I would consider how much work went into the art they are using, and not charge a random fee out of proportion with the complexity of the design. The point being not to overcharge for something they could have got on fiver for $20, if that is the case.

Any chance to get $50 and free tacos for life :)
I don't know if you resolved this but there are two basic ways to market your logo.

1. You get a fee for designing your logo for a client who gets complete rights to its use it any market they want to (food truck, restaurant, online web site, dog food line ;). This is called "work for hire". You should charge MUCH more money for this kind of arrangement.

2. You don't give up the rights to a design and you charge the client according to the market (print, web, video, etc. that it will be used in. You can charge three different fees based on each market that it is used and how many "views" or imprints it will get. Each market has a different fee structure and the fees change basedon the volume in which the design will be seen.

Of course you are free to write up a contract with whatever terms you and a client can agree too.
At least 100 bucks. And yes, you can ask them to get free food too. lol.
