Am i charging to much for these?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on this one, I quoted a company for some shirts, Sent 4 different mockups before they found one they liked. priced out at $18 a shirt

now coming back saying they found 2 other companies that will do the shirts $5 cheaper then me and i was shocked cause i though i was being really cheap on this

So i am wondering what you guys would charge to make these shirts, they first asked for 20 but now thinking 50 of them

2 colours and 3 placements (Back, Left Chest and Left Bottom Side of shirt

Thx Guys
Mark

What type of shirt is it..? Maybe the other companies are $5 cheaper but will make up for it with set up fees and screen fees..

First you need to understand that prices for printing will be different in different areas.

With that said, my printer charges a setup fee of $15 per color, per screen. So you've got 3 different locations, with 2 colors on 2 of them and 1 color on the other. That would be $75 in setup fees.

Then they would charge the general public $2.25 for 1 color and $2.50 for 2 colors in a run of 20 or 50 shirts. With the 3 locations, printing 20 shirts would be $145 plus a $75 setup fee=$220.

For the now 50 shirts they are "thinking" about it would be $362 plus a $75 setup fee=$437.

Also, it's important to note that price can be a factor for customers, but it's not always the only factor. When I first began looking for a contract printer, I got contract pricelists and quotes from several different printers. Some of them had great communication, nice looking shops and what I considered reasonable prices.

But one of them had horrible communication, no experience working with brands, extremely unflexible, and their prices were way out of line from the other printers I had contacted...until they found out that I was moving my office across the street from their shop. Then they wanted to be VERY accomodating and have someone with a brand and continual work so close. Too late!

They turned me off by wanting to charge me almost twice what everyone else was charging. Most of the prices were within a couple of dollars of each other. But this one was about $5 higher per shirt. That's a lot of money.

Not everybody's trying to lowball you. Sometimes if you're not in line with what they really can get some other places, why would they pick you?

Maybe that's the case. I know I ALWAYS want to know the total price, THEN calculate what that will be per shirt.

Only then can you accurately compare. If your prices are still $5 higher per shirt, then let them go. If you need to make what you're charging, then so be it. It's not worth it to lose money.

It is a Gildan 8000 shirt, and i am assuming that as well with the setup and screen fees, but the client stated all artwork fees so not sure if thats the same thing as i do Heat Press Vinyl for all my shirts. I am still new to this business and trying to make a go at it but there is no way i can do these for $13 a shirt and still turn a profit, unless i work for free i guess lol

Yeah.. Don't work for free leave that to the cut throat guys that are willing. They will be out of business sooner than later..

Wow I can't Even buy the shirts that cheap here in Canada lol, okay i can but i mean 50 shirts will cost me $160ish and would take me a couple hours to do the shirts, man I need to look into screen printing more, I just cant complete with the Heat Press Vinyl. Even to buy the transfers i am looking at $4 a location roughly

*sigh
I could outsource that job for 511.60 (7.11 each all in) for 36 x 2 different colour shirts....If it was only 25 x 2 my cost would be 464.50 (9.29 each all in)....At 50 pieces I would like to get at least 13.94 each....At 72 pieces 10.66 each....But if my client told me they would give me 13.00 each for 50, I would take it...

Unfortunately until you get some volume, a larger operation can buy that shirt for over 1.00 less than you....

The prices I posted were for printing only. I don't know if I made that clear.:)

It does NOT include the price of the shirt.
