Hey there! I have read older posts about centering, pressing before adding the vinyl but I am wondering a couple other things...any guidance you can pass my way would be appreciated. (And, please be gentle when you read my current method for lining things up...)

1. How do you line up your vinyl before pressing? I am currently doing probably the dumbest thing...just eyeballing it w/ a ruler and a pressed center seam. I know there has to be a faster, more efficient way. It takes me way too long and I'm always triple and quadruple checking to make sure I got it straight/lined up...and then it moves!

2. Is there a general rule of thumb for spacing the vinyl on certain places of a shirt or hoodie? For example, how far down from neckline should I start? Where would you place it in the pocket area? How high do you place names on the back, etc?

Thanks,

Lisa

I'm just getting into it, as well, and I have to say that the T-SQ-IT is probably better suited for transfers vs. vinyl. My reasoning is that the vinyl is sticky, so you can't move it *easily* underneath the T-SQ-IT...it will begin to pull the fabric.

From what I've seen so far, time on the tools and just eyeballing it is the only way to production. I'd say that after laying it down, the T-SQ-IT will offer you info of is it straight or how close to the same placement as the last one is. But when it's off, it's hard to adjust due to that sticky backing.

Now for a single shirt (that I'm going to wear), that's a different story...I'll spend some extra time. I like the idea and hope Lou does super-well with his device. I just don't know how much I'll use mine until I get transfers?

Most of the time, I fold the transfer or vinyl in half (not a hard fold) and put a piece of heat tape in the middle and place it on the garment. 1 hand down and eyeball it for the middle of the shirt and use my hands to measure from either side to make sure it is in the middle( or almost). For large shirts, I use a clear plastic Omnigrid bought from a sewing supply store. Sometmes I press a line in the middle after lining up the arm pits. I use to make myself crazy with this stuff, but now seem to have less errors and I wing it most of the time. But, I also use the t-square it or the Logo one for polos. It really depends on the design and the apparel as to what I need at the time. I think also the time of the day makes a difference for if I can just plop it in the middle straight or not. Sometimes I measure from the bottom up for placement if that fits.
