I am registered with 7 or 8 distributors (Alpha, Sanmar etc..). Let say I settle on a blank like the Anvil 980. I order 500 shiorts to start, get those going into stores, and boom, all of them are out!

Now I have to find a similar shirt, and that can be a pain! Its a different cost, different cut etc, and will likely also have supply issues... How do you overcome this nightmare?

I don't think this is a bad problem to have...:) I think you are on the right track by having accounts with multiple blank vendors. Yes, the pricing can be drastically different, but you won't be able to do anything about the cuts.

Maybe you can open a direct account with Anvil, like people do with with American Apparel & other companies..

If you intend to sell to stores, start looking into private label programs. Most domestic blank suppliers offer this with their styles or you can even create your own specs. Or you can look into a cut and sew facility.
So look into private label with Anvil, or say Alpha? Really can't believe I haven't thought of this avanue! I have had a shortage problem for over a year! Do they just make shirts for me then, and stock them? I am really curious how this works!

Alpha is a distributor, not a manufacturer. Not sure if Anvil offers private label. You may need someone like Royal Apparel, JS Apparel, Article1, Next Level, etc. Most of those types of suppliers offer private label. Or search for cut and sew factories.

I don't know if they will stock product for you. I guess it depends on how much you order. You will need to purchase at their minimums though.

Ah! Gotcha. So I guess I just need to buy larger amounts of blanks when they have them in stock.... Frustrating that shirts like the Anvil 980 run out of white and black for months at a time.

Really? TSC Apparel has 10,000 XL white in stock & 12,000 XL black in stock. (and that's only at one warehouse) Maybe you should try some bigger distributors..:)

I use TSC all the time, and right now I can't get Silver in good quantities anywhere. A month and a half ago, EVERYONE was out of multiple sizes of black, for over a month....
