How can I find out if a team logo is trade marked ?

I'm involved in a sport that's not that popular but their are professional teams with team logo's. How can I find out if the names/logo's are trademarked ? My idea is to get permission from each individual team to sell their team logo on a shirt. I would obviously work out some kind of fee. I'm just not sure the best way to go about this ? Should I write a letter ? try to attain a phone # ? thanks

you can check to see if the logo is registered...go to the gov registration site which is:
United States Patent and Trademark Office

But even if not registered I would not unilaterally try to market the logos without team permission...sure would save headaches I think...to say nothing about just being fair

Your best bet would be to call up the league office and ask about licensing opportunities.
