I have a chance to buy a Hotronix 16x20 clam shell auto open heat press. It is 3 years old but like new and barely used. It also comes with the caddie and a smaller platen. They were asking $1100 but I got them down to $800. I thought this was a great deal but my wife thinks it is too expensive. In my opinion, it's a deal that is hard to pass up. What are your opinions? Great deal or no? It's only 45 minutes away.

i personally don't like the magnetic auto open/close assist of the autos,
just seems like a guaranteed failure point (which i have run across, just in reading here and there)
maybe hotronix is better than most, and someone will chime in and say they have used one for over 5 years w/o issue

at least the platen has a lifetime warranty (you should see if this is transferable)

tough call

i might look around at other non-auto used (like hix, insta or geo knight) and see what they go for,
you might get one for $400

I would with out a doubt go for it the caddie alone is close to $400

I prefer goe knight presses and stahls come in at a close 2nd (for us)...
This is a good deal if it as you describe it (great shape, low use).

I would buy it if I were you.

This is a very good deal. I love its great features - auto open and over the center pressure adjustment.
