HOP production white, High Res color

A brilliant idea by Gerald is something I am now using for production all the time. He suggested to me (on a phone call) making a profile that uses HOP white production and then high rez color. This corrects the fact that standard production mode doesn't usually put enough white ink out, and it also lays down color in high resolution so that you still get good detail. The speed is much faster than printing High resolution on both layers and it lays enough white down for solidity. AA should provide this profile to everyone it is working great to capture detail and maintain a fast speed.

this is a good option, and i've been using it for a long time as well. there are times when it isn't quite enough white ink for me, but i think it's because i'm too picky. the customers like it just fine. i just made an additional production environment for "Black and Dark hi-res" and "Black and Red hi-res" that has the white underbase at 1440x720 and left the cmyk at 1440x720. then i saved it as a new environment so that i can easily choose between the two.

i agree that this should be utilized by all!

Yea I agree on a solid white font or something I guess it is not be perfect. Better than production, but not as solid white as Hi res
Is this available from AA or did you set it up yourself? I'd love to see the settings!
you do it yourself by creating a new environment. just start with the hi-res version, but in the settings, change the white from 1440x1440 to 1440x720. leave the cmyk where it is at 1440x720. make sure you "save as" so that you don't overwrite the original environment. if you need help, i can call you Monday.
Great, thanks Sean. I'll give it a try Monday.
I would recommend before jumping Into this is make sure all your other areas of printing are perfect first. If there not you will not have good results. I would recommend starting with printing everything in highres to make sure all prints look amazing. Than when you have that down to try others methods. But if your preprint or post printing is not perfected than your prints will not be perfected.

Sean this won't allow for the high opacity on the white though, right?
the regular "production" mode prints the white at 720x720, and i'm rarely pleased with it. hi-res prints the white at 1440x1440, and looks great, but can be more than necessary, and take twice as long. so this modified "production" has the white at 1440x720 which is a little less ink than hi-res, but enough to look good and it shaves off a few minutes of print time. like Gerald said, though, you will want to ensure that your methods are all good. proper pretreat, all 4 white channels printing, etc.
Yea, I was under the impression that the HOP has TC curves altered as well to lay down more white. John Lee set this up for me and he also changed the color layer to lay down 60% instead of 100%. I don't know exactly what else was done but I suggest anyone who isn't in full control of all aspects of Neorip just to call Tigers to do this for them.
Please also it that hop layout is not as good for images that have a lot of fades, gradients, glows or skin tones. It is more for the spot colors unless you know how to make more tweaks to the software. So for example print a digital design of person in both methods and you will see the mike hop looks better but than print a spot color and see that hop as good.
