The handle always seemed a little loose since I got it and the pressing action was never smooth. The handle has about 1/4 play before it contact the pressing mechanism. It seems to be getting looser. And now the pressure gauge stopped working, everything is "high pressure"

Hix has not answered my emails. This seems to be a pattern with them ignoring support emails.

Is there supposed to be play in the handle?

did you try calling instead? I've always had good support from them, even with my 40 + year old press

I will have to call, I prefer email or a ticketing system though.
