Personally I think it's all about what you're comfortable doing but more importantly what you enjoy doing. You can have the same artwork applied to the same type of garment using a variety of methods and each method has its pros and cons. It's ultimately up to you to decide.
Some things may make more sense in the end and may have been easier understood had things been done differently but, so what? If you enjoy plastisol heat transfers then ya know what? Make some shirts using plastisol heat transfers!
We have been doing screen printing for a long time and are just now getting into heat transfers and sublimation. Had we started off doing heat transfers and sublimation first, I don't think it would've made a difference. Screen printing is what we enjoy the most - the heat transfers are just to offer an additional line of services to our customers.
I would imagine you want to wind up with a quality final product. If heat transfers is the way you want to go, I would suggest brushing up on your inks, transfer papers and heat presses.
Have fun and good luck!
