Help With Screen Printing Paint!

I'm new to screen printing and I'm doing a project that requires striped leggings. I bought white opaque Versatex paint to create the stripes, but it says on the instructions that I need Versatex Fixer, is this a must or can I go without? I'm going to cure it with my heat press.
