hello, i just recently purchased a epson 1100 with filmaker rip software from us screen supply to print my film positives for screen printing. i have been using fast rip previously with my DTG printer, and i thought the 2 progs would be somewhat similar, but honestly i have no idea where to start with this filmaker and im wondering if there are instructions or help tips/demo videos/tutorials or anything? or any advice anybody could offer up would be extremely helpful, as us screen wont return my emails about the subject and it came with no instructions or anything? plz help! thanks

You didn't buy filmmaker from US screen print they have been out of business since 2009. Filmmaker is a product of Cadlink but they have always been the backbone of fastrip. Which was sold by US Screen Print The user manual is available on their website. If you have a legit version just email them they will call you back. They can also do a remote to you pc to help you. They offer this for 90 days after purchase They are in Ontario Canada.

FileMaker is a fine rip and if your printer supports variable dot you can get some great films. This is the only rip that I know of that supports this.

pardon me, AMERICAN SCREEN not us screen is where I purchased it.
You can get support from cadlink directly. The 1100 does support variable dot. Did you buy the lite ver? (1100 only) about $200 heck of a deal or did you upgrade. Support up to 17". Once you get it down you can make better films then most rips. Good luck.

its called film maker version 3. how would I know if it's lite or not?
Did you do an upgrade from fast rip? If so its the DTP not lite. If you didn't upgrade how much did you pay?
i paid $550 for an epson 1100/Rip bundle
That bundle is the lite version. It is still a fully functioning filmmaker but only works for the 1100. That's a heck of a price for a full film output system. I couldn't open specs for entire package on iPad does that come with all black? If so filmmaker doesn't print from all channels by default the manual will give you info. But if you call they can help you setup it may take a little tweaking to get the perfect ink deposits if using all channels but if just using the black channel it will work with the default settings. I would set up when time allows if using all black. Will keep the heads from clogging. If not all black make sure to print a full color full page photo at least weekly.

cool. Thanks for the tips. Its not all black. Only 2 of them are black. The others are cmy. But it came with an ink substitute. Almost looks like water. To keep in the color cartrideges ... I would assume to keep from stagnant color ink clogging the head?
Yes. Call or confirm with Cadlink I think it will print all black. In order to use the 2 blacks I think you need to choose a few options to make it work. You have to check show advanced options even to get the options to show. Unless this is something different in the lite version but before I purchased I asked and they said same as DTP except only for the 1100. I spent a year testing then retesting different rips and you purchased one of the finest. There was 1 that gave similar results but was like $1300-$1500 just for the rip. I will admit it is not as user friendly as some others but the variable dot is worth it weight in gold when printing gradients and transitioning halftones.

so...do I HAVE to print black w/ all cartridges in order for my positives to print right?
No but you can print much faster if you print all black.
