Why would only one platen print fuzzy, even though the off-contact is identical to the other platens, and the platens have new tape down with no build up?

It's been a dilemma for me for a while.

I have another mystery I can't seem to solve also. How come my first 3 platens register perfect then my 4th doesn't, even though the off-contact is identical, and the arms are nice and snug as they seat down, no play, etc.. Can't seem to wrap my head around why my 4th platen mis-registers by a hair. Just enough to let underbase peek out.

Are the platens totally level? Are the locking levers underneath tight or have the bolts become loose on that station? Has someone messed with the off-contact bolt?
I've tried to get everything as level as possible, which is pretty dang level, and everything is nice and tight underneath, and above. It's just blowing my mind how each arm rests nicely, no play. So how are they not lining up on my 3rd platen, it's killing me. It's a pain to have to skip over that one printing manually.

A mystery, as you say.

Perhaps something is deflecting while printing due to a weak weld or elongated bolt hole, or the like. I'd try observing it from different angles while someone went through the motions of printing.

If the registration is off from left to right, check the gate to see if the print head is tight when it comes down. We have a couple presses that use the nylon bolts to center the head. They can be adjusted or replaced if when they wear out.

If it's top to bottom, then I'd agree with the other posts.

Sometimes when I get that it's because I thought the gate was tight but when I looked closer there was an almost unnoticeable bit of play from side to side. And a tiny amount of play in the gate can result in a very noticeable difference on the print. For a quick fix I just stick a piece of tape or two on the guide to tighten up the arm.
