Hey Guys,

I have a DTG Kiosk that I've had for aproximatly 3 years that has developed a problem. I bought It second hand so I can't get any help from SWF East without paying a huge support contract fee.
When I bought it 3 years ago it was 6 months ago and I talked to SWF East before I bought it and after and they even helped me set it up and now, No help. And I buy my ink from The Colman Company at the same address.

Anyways, Hoply someone on here has had the same problem as I don't want to spend alot of money on parts that won't fix it. I'm attaching a picture of what I'm getting. I will start up printer and it will give a good nozle check and so I load shirt and send my design, I usually do this design with 2 passes and It will usually will do the first pass ok. I then send the second pass and the machine will go bazirk and print extra ink all over the place.

I have replaced the ribbon cable and encoder strip.Still have the same problem, I had a older head that was partly clogged laying around so I also tried that head and It even though I wasn't geting good ink flow, The head was spraying ink all over where it wasn't needed.
So I'm pretty sure its not the head causing my problem. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

I have started outsourcing my shirts to another company doing dtg printing as I needed to get shirts moving. I usually only do pictures on shirts and I do about 200 dtg shirts a year so I'm also considering dumping this dtg machine as a parts machine on EBAY and just continuing to outsource my shirts. My only problem right now is that I'm outsourcing to a company on west coast and it takes 4 days to get to me. Is there any company I can outsource to in the midwest. I'm in Wisconsin.

Thanks
Jeff

I would try running a repair on the Rip-Pro software!

That seems like a carriage issue to me. The printer loses track of where the carriage is and just starts spitting out ink. You say you replaced the encoder strip, but did you clean the pass thru slot behind the carriage that it passes thru? Also, and this is my bet, the belt that drives the head carriage is connected to two gears. If t hose gears are not cleaned at least every few hundred t-shirts, the lint builds up and the belt slips, which causes the carriage to lose it's place. Lastly, if the belt gets loose, it can cause this issue of slippage, it can be adjusted on the left side.

Hope it helps. If you decide to junk it for parts send me a PM with the price, I am interested.

From Justin in our Support Department:

Possible places to look: The encoder sensor itself may have become dirty or fouled from ink. This is the slot that the encoder strip feeds through behind the carriage. You can a pipe cleaner to very gently clean behind this to remove any atomized ink or debris. Also a can of compressed air to blow anything else out.

The next thing I would examine is the drive belt and gear. This is the orange belt that move thats the carriage left to right. Over time this will collect ink and shirt fibers and transfer these to the gear that moves the belt. Inspect all these and clean any debris out of the gear and belt itself. The carriage should move much smoother and read the encoder properly once again
