Hello. I have stumbled across this sight several times as I surfed trying to find info about heat presses and t-shirts. I have a custom embroidery business and have just added a heat press to the shop to offer unique gifts (mouse pads, bags, etc) and heat transfers.

So, I was so proud of myself, found a used heat press in town... only paid $200 for it.. it is Hix swing arm. The guy I bought it from tested the temperature guage to check accuracy for me (before I got there... we will get back to that).

So, took my press home... and started to offer shirts.

Got my first big job... 55 shirts. Great, ordered them, pressed them and sent them off.

And then... I got the call... they were peeling.

OH NOOOOOOOOO. I have checked everything... long story short, just checked the temperature and it is running 30 degrees off.

Now.. I did go out and buy a Williams Sonoma digital prob thermometer... and have tested accuracy against other thermometer. I am sure there is a more acurate way to test this... but is making life very clear right now.

So, I am now replacing the 55 shirts and setting my heat press 30 higher then it needs.

Urgh, should have bought the new one... soon will. Thank god this happened before I did another big order this week with 4 different transfers on each set.

Looking forward to learning more here.

Was it a big company? Check in that forum for help, it was most likely the heat, but it never hurts to ask this question again. Some people have had problems with different companies.
