Hello.

I was wondering if I could get any advice from some of you guys.
I have been thinking about starting up a small printing project and have been told by a few friends that they would like some t shirts and jumpers printed.

So I am thinking about taking the leap and finally investing in some equipment.

I was wondering if some of you could advise on a heat press and a vinyl cutter. I would like to get good quality but not really shore what to look for.

Also if I could get any advice on the best vinyl to get that would be great.

The designs I have at the moment are just one color and not to complex so would be easy to pick out of vinyl.
I thought if I start off like this and see how I go then I could invest in a printer and run off some transfers if needed in the future.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Pete

We started out with a Roland GX-24 and a swing arm heat press. We got both from Xpres and we also get our vinyl from them too. We've found EasyFlex vinyl to be extremely good to work with and the colour range is fantastic. You can also layer most types of vinyl which will enable you to do multi coloured designs - so just because you're working with vinyl doesn't mean you're limited to a single colour.

We mostly print our tee's DTG, but I'm still personally very fond of vinyl!
In the UK, mdpsupplies.co.uk is a great first stop. They sell vinyl cutters and supplies at reasonable prices and in small quantities. Have fun!
Thanks for the advice guys. Really helpful ☺
I have a few more questions if anyone can help.

What size press would I need to print on t shirts and could I use the press on jumpers?

If I use thin vinyl would that be nearly as good as printing?

Also roughly how much would vinyl cost for say a t shirt.

I am really exited about this but also scared about it.

And finally would I be able to set all this up in my bedroom for now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Big as you can afford. I have a 38 x 38cm. It's good for most prints but I'd like to go bigger once in a while. If by jumpers, you mean sweatshirts and fleeces, yes. If you mean acrylic or knitted jumpers, I don't think so.

I find cut vinyl hot flex to be nearly as good as screen printing, sometimes even preferable to screen printing and I do both.

It depends on the size, quantity of colours and vinyl type, but I would say roughly £1. or so for a 30 x 24cm print.

If you get a small cutter (Cameo) and a 38 x 38cm press, it wont take up much space. You could do it all on a kitchen table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I hope that helps a bit. Have fun!
