I do not belive it makes a difference. The bottom pad is silicone and can take up to 1,200 degrees F. I leave mine open all the time.

No it would not. Why heat the bottom platten when you don't have to. Your directing heat to where it is not needed. Leave it open.

Kyle...you may be right time wise but again, why heat something that you don't need to. Placing your first shirt on a hot bottom platten will give you nothing but a facial. :)

We heat up open, but hen we never close the press. Is that bad? I've heard you cab ware out the joints quicker by opening/closing all the time. We have an auto.

I hope you open and close to do the shirts. :) The "joints" on the upper platten will work for years. I give them a squirt with WD40 once a month to keep them lubed. Just make sure that it does not get on the lupper platten when it's hot.

Haha yeah I do.. We have no safety issues here so just leave it open. Seems hassle to open n close especially cos u gota put the lil screw key in to hold it down.
