Having trouble with Joto TrimFree paper in OKI 6050 Laser Printer

3755 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  mgparrish
We just started using an OKI 6050 Laser printer for our Tshirt transfers with the new TrimFree Joto transfer Paper, but we can't seem to get a good clean print. We follow the paper setting instructions but it takes A LOT of prints to get a useable transfer. Anyone have any suggestions? On plain copy paper the prints are perfect. And on the transfer paper the images starts out looking fine then has missing or smearing of the color. I know once we get consistant prints we will love this no trim process. Thanks!

For OKI Printers, we suggest using Label 1 or 2 paper mode to get a good print. The smearing or missing of parts of the image is caused by the toner offsetting (due to not enough heat being applied to the toner).

If you have any further problems with the paper, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Hi Joto sponsor, sorry I don't know your name lol. I'm very interested in your paper. Is there any way I could possibly get a sample sheet or two?

I haven't had any success with this paper yet. If I use labels 1 or 2 with my OKI, the ink smears badly and the transfer sheet appears as if it is melting or something. The same thing happens with Heavy mode. I even used a laser copier and I am still not getting good results. I posted in another thread some results. Here is the link to that post, scroll down to the middle of the page and you will see my post with pictures.

Also the shirt with the eagle on it was washed yesterday and the image came completely off the shirt. I do not know how it was washed as the help comes in once a week every Tuesday and I just saw it this morning but I will find out how it was washed. I have to run out the door but I will post pictures of the shirts after they were washed. I have used an Oki6100 and a brand new Oki5200 and still poor results.

I have spoken to 3 different people about this paper. I actually purchased it from one of your resellers that has been assisting me with it but if it is still OK to contact you I will.

Here are the photos. The first one is after the 1st wash. The others are the before pictures. I will post the after photos once they come out of the dryer.

I had pretty quick success with TrimFree. first two prints did not fuse to the paper, I switched to an image with more colors and less black (since I wanted to have some success and the image itself was not important) So, third sheet, the fusing was good. I used the instructions it came with. I got a shiny colorful finish. I tried the stretch technique prior to pulling the paper off, that worked well. The image is really sitting on the surface and did crack quite a bit when stretched. I then washed and it seems fine with vibrant colors. I will take pics when I get a moment. I wish it was more like dura cotton, seeping deeper into the fabric rather than being more like vinyl sitting on top of the fabric. Im not ruling it out however. Next I need to wash and wear a few times...

What printer are you using? If I follow the instructions my prints are turning out terrible so I have been tweaking them a bit. Things are getting better but I have already wasted about 20 sheets and still no luck.
I am using my Oki5800 (noted in my sig), on Heavy, slightly tweaked color (config'ed for Duracotton)

Thanks for posting. Maybe if I actually read you sig I would have seen that. Thanks anyway.

Do you have any pics of your shirts?
Hey Guys,

I actually was able to see and test this paper right at the Indy show a while back. I tried it on the Oki 5550, oki6050 and the Oki6150. I tried every single setting to see the different results. Right from the start, the 6150 worked best at light heavy setting and sending it through the multi purpose tray. And, since it's a straight shot right through the multi-tray, there was no jamming. Also, and alot of people might be pleased.....The HP3600 worked flawlessly through both the multi purpose tray and the stack tray too.
Katrina,

Smearing is due to toner not fusing. You still need to up the temp. Try Ultra heavy and card stock media setting. Addtionally run 5 or more sheets of blank standard paper using a file that is blank or has a single space character and carriage return to conserve toner usage. That will help keep the fuser primed (hot).

The picture that has polymer window tells me that TrimFree is really not self weeding.

It could also be backgrounding from stray toner in the laser. Some lasers do that. You can test if it is poly and stray toner in the BG by heating the shirt in that area and see if it is sticky while hot.

If it is poly in the open areas my guess is that too much dwell and/or temp and/or pressure causing it to lift off the paper in undesired areas. Looks to me there is a "window of opportunity" for dwell/temp/pressure like when using Image clip papers.
