Are attorneys suffering from this economy that they have to go out and bait screen printers?

I've been getting quote requests lately from law firms (well they don't say they are from a law firm but their email extensions are from one). Then they ask for us to print shirts using a trademarked logo such as Chevy, or Ford but replace it with "furdtastic" or something similar (almost a parody but not a thin line). It just seems like such an odd request? I'm just going to ignore them.

Just a warning.

Baiting & entrapment are both legal in the USA as long as it's perpetrated by a law enforcement officer....case in point female officers posing as prostitutes to bait & entrap would be Johns.

JMHO
ya that makes sense. don't think law firms fall into the same category as law enforcement officers. i get what you're saying tho, it could be law enforcement officers sending the email.

I thought it was a scam email but I looked them up and they are a local law firm that's located downtown. They are a legit firm.

I would like to do something about this, but it gets hairy when dealing with attorneys lol. I don't think I can afford to go against a law firm if anything were to happen if I reported them to prove my point.

Their client list are huge companies. Chrysler is one of them but they also list a local Ford dealership as one of their clients? WTF? I'm still trying to figure out what their true motives are. I can't see a law firm acting as a print broker for one of their clients. hmmm...

What would I ask? Why are you asking me to print a ford emblem with a parody on it? I've dealt with lawyers before, and they are not fun people to talk to.
i'd enquire about the work and question the legality of it, state your concerns. if it still seems sketchy, don't accept the work.
i just don't see the harm in following up.

All the more reason to just disregard, move along, nothing to see here......if you really want to know just email back with a number for them to call to discuss what they have in mind, you know whats legal and I'd hope so would they.....you can always say you would love to help them out but your 3-6 months (backlog) before being able to get to them, then recommended someone else you really don't like for them to take their business to....just a thought.:)

I'd send them a short email saying that those are copyrighted/trademarked protected images and that would be infringement. You do not infringe on copyrights.
period.

What a irritation though.......geez

I just received an email asking about softball shirts but they want an orange shirt with the old english D on the front. They said they have the logo trademarked because under the D is their Business name. Maybe they have done the same to ford logo?? I emailed them back saying that I would have to see proof of the trademarked logo. I am hoping they just didnt put a TM in the lower corner and they think that made it Trademarked

Like the other poster mentioned, forward the request to your state bar association along with your concerns, and maybe to the legal department at Ford. Sounds to me like some slimeball lawyer. Let him deal with the consequences. Those guys are out to make folks' lives miserable, so show 'em a little "love" in return . . .
