Have a Mighty Press that wont lock down

I am researching as I pull things together to start a t-shirt biz. My husband found a Mighty Press on Craigslist for $100. It looks like it is in good shape but the arm will not lock down. He said when the guy showed him he held the arm down but from all of the videos I have seen online no one has held the arm down. Has he wasted our money or can this be fixed?

Can you post a picture so we can see what type you have?

100 bucks for a Mighty Press is hardly a waste of money, even if you have to manually hold down the handle.
Yes please post a picture or a couple of pictures. Maybe we can spot something to help you fix it.
I don't have a mighty press so I might not be much help, BUT I had an issue with my Hotronix press when I first got it. There was a little piece that was bent. All I had to do was bend it back so that when the press was closed it was touching the sensor. I am attaching a picture showing what was wrong with my press. Hopefully it is something simple like that.

Hey, nice buy for $100. It sounds to me, like you have worn out "Lift links"on the machine. Those are the two metal pieces on either side of the handle that connect the top arm to the lower adjustment arm. Hotronix can help you with parts tech support etc. 800-727-8520.
Best of luck!
Thanks to everybody for your speedy feedback. I emailed Hotronix last night and they responded this morning. They asked for pictures so hopefully they can help. I will update you and let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.
Try this.
Lower the heater to the platen and then turn the pressure adjustment knob as tight as you can. Then, try to raise the heater again. That's worked for me to get everything working again.
