There were only a few threads on alibaba, but i couldn't find what I was looking for. I do understand you have to find a legit and trustworthy supplier, but has anyone used it to order clothes???

Another thing I noticed. A lot of clothes on alibaba are branded already. I am interested in some of their shirts.

Can I order the same exact product from the supplier and re-brand it for sales in the US???

I have dealt with Alibaba suppliers in a variety of products. (Just not with clothing, but I'd imagine it to be the same. You want to do your due diligence. They are always willing to sell you a sample, be wary of the extras. Also, you are okay buying samples, but when you buy more, you will have to deal with import duties etc... You can also hire an auditing company for about $250 and they will inspect your products for you in production, pre-production, and even when they are being loaded into the cargo container. (there are many American companies that do this).

hmmm....yeah, I'll have to contact the manufacturer for samples.

When you mention import duties, what exactly are you referring to??? Is there extra charges???...sorry, I don't order much from overseas.

Thanks for the auditing company info...I didn't know that was available and it'll be very helpful!

I'd recommend calling them too, many suppliers have been willing to talk to me on the phone and it has been helpful in learning more about their business.

Yes, they send the samples as "samples/gifts" so you don't pay duties on those. But there are duties you have to pay on the main order. Not sure if anyone here as dealt with it differently, but UPS and DHL will both handle your customs brokerage and freight if you want them flown in. If you want them to be shipped, many of the shipping companies can handle the brokerage for you.

I Have found that most of the companies are actually trading companies and not manufacturers. All they are trying to do is make some money off of outsourcing your job. I do have some China manufacturers that are on Alibaba , but I didn't find them on Alibaba.

Yes...it seems alibaba is more for big company trading.

How did you manage to find a manufacturer from china?

I emailed one, but just waiting on a reply

I was researching on Google and reading forums on Alibaba and the services....A LOT of negative reviews about scams, etc...which I am aware of and I understand you have to choose wisely who you deal with.

A lot of people said if they have a company profile, company registration #, address, info, etc....they will be more reliable. Do any of you believe in that???

Yes. The best thing is to email them. Wait a few days. Ask questions, see how they respond. I've had some that say at the last minute "My boss tells me you must pay the xxxx country inspection fee of $85" and then they keep doing these things. It is 50/50. Worst case you buy a sample and lose out on what you spent for the sample.

Some questions to ask:
1. can I take a look at the factory?
2. Can i send an inspector for the products?

(Even when I cant do either one of those, the way the respond tells me everything. One person told me before I even asked them, to send an inspector and visit the factory. Another company said that they are not allowed by "legal" or something to do that.)

Just ask questions and see how their tone is -- easiest way to deal with them if you can't go out there.

Thank you! that'll be very helpful. I plan on asking lots of questions and hope they are legitimate.

No problem good luck! I just saw these guys online, don't know anything about them but they look like they have some good services. May be worth looking into.

Buddy Clothing | T-shirt Manufacturer in China, Custom Knit and Woven Garments

Thank you! I'll check them out.

I have designs made, but I just see a hassle with telling them exactly how I want it made. Unless, I travel over there...which is unlikely

But by any chance, if I like a shirt or jacket that they already manufactured/made and I just want to place orders on the products, but the products are already branded in China. Can I re-brand them to my own brand??? I don't want to get in trouble...hahaha

I asked my contact out there in China and he didn't give me a sraight shot answer, so I replied back and asked again.

If you can ask for close up photos of how the labels are in them -- you can take out the labels and put your own in (any of the seamstress services here can do it for you). Do you have an RN number, that makes it easy too for you to relabel anything and put that in. You MUST put the country of origin in though.

Good Luck

I do have my RN#....If I do re-label some of their products from China and sell it under my brand. Can they come after me for legal purposes?

I know and I'm sure they could care less about what I do with their tee or jackets in the US, but you never know...haha
