Hi,

I'm new to all this and was hoping for some software advice.

I recently purchased a GCC Expert 24 Vinyl Cutter and will be setting it up here shortly. I have no experience in vinyl cutting, so basically a newbie.

The cutter will be set up in the garage, and ran off a laptop computer. I want to do my designing in the house on my desktop computer, then transfer the images to the laptop for printing/cutting.

I currently have Corel Draw 9 and TurboCad on my desktop. I have limited experience with these programs, but enough to where I can make some basic images that I have cut out with a water-jet machine (metal parts).

The vinyl cutter came with GreatCut, I just registered it to get the activation code, but have not yet loaded to either computer. The activation says its for 1 license, does this mean I can only use it on 1 computer? If so, then I'm not sure which computer to put it on. I don't know the capabilities of GreatCut, or how easy/difficult it is to use, so don't know how much I'd use it for designing. If its easier than Corel, then I'll probably use it more, I struggle with Corel. I can put Corel on the laptop if need be, but would rather not, the laptop is older and don't like big graphic programs.

So basically I'm struggling right now on which program(s) to put on which computer. Again, I want to use the laptop only to open the designs and click Print.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

you will want GreatCut installed on the computer that is connected to the cutter. You can always design in one program and export it in a file that Great Cut will accept...remember your images will have to be vector in order to cut. So in your case...design in the house and export the file to a thumb drive and open on the laptop. BTW...hope you are keeping the vinyl in the house...garage is not a great place to store vinyl unless there are no great changes in temp/moisture

It also seems you may want to consider some upgrades if you are serious about this business. Corel 9 is now 6 versions back of the current versions.
