Hi guys,

I’m min new to dye sub and am trying to figure out why this us happening.
im pressing my 15oz mug at 400 for 180 seconds on a mug press. I have other designs that will come out perfect but then we tried this with the same settings and it turned out gray.
Any ideas or suggestions so that I don’t just keep wasting blanks?

Heat fluctuations maybe. Do you have a temperature gun to test the heating element?

From my notes on things that can go wrong with sublimation:

- If the black has a greenish tint to it, it hasn’t sublimated long enough and needs more time

- If the black has a brownish tint to it, its sublimated for too long and has lost color and needs less time

Don't know if that helps, or makes sense with what you are seeing, but your "gray" image looked sort of brown to me.

It's odd that there is so much ink on the paper still. I normally do my mugs at 385F for 190s under heavy pressure. What kind of paper are you using?

If the same transfers on the same blanks are giving variable results, then it must be a difference in the pressing. I'm also voting for temperature issues.
