Hello all gurus, I have problem with getting gray (percentage of black) to print gray. And I ended up with "light blue". Does anyone know how to remedy this?

I use epson 1520,

setting; cmyk, inkjet paper, best quality, resolution 1440X720 (max)

If you are using OEM pigment ink the colors will shift under hot temperature. Some have tried using the settings below and claims it fixes the color shift:

Y -15
C +5
M +5

The fix that works is to use third party inks. You can get them from at least two vendors that are reasonably priced.

The vendors are:

Inkjetcarts.com
Inksupply.com
What program you are using will also have an impact. When we print from Corel the blues & greens & greys turn out very unpredictable. But the same art from Photoshop is much more accurate.
I uses Epson ink and print from Illustrator CS2. I have tried inkjetcarts ink and it never work. Getting lines, band and all those frustrating stuff.
Used up 85 percent of the ink just testing and 1 weeks time. Ross is great when you want to buy and not much help after. I send him an email about calling him but was turn down. None of the good service that I read here. And he said he will send me a empty black cart but never did. I guess I'm one of those cases where the customer got screwed. Not a happy camper. Wasted $70 time.

From now on I'll keep to Epson ink.

The Photoshop and Y -15, C +5, M +5 is an interesting approach. Lnfortun is right Blue, green and grey is unpredictable. This is why I haven't approach other businesses for jobs.

What about other printer like HP, Canon? Do they have surprises too?

I can tell you I bought a CIS from inkjetcart.us and bought a refurbished printer direct form Epson. The printer wasn't working, but I didn't know it. So I installed the CIS, and it wouldn't print. I tried and tried and nothing seemed to fix the damn thing. One of the thin tubes broke. So I called Ross. By that time I switched to the OEM cartridges and still nothing. Then I realised it was a defective printer. I told Ross about the whole thing, and he sent my a new CIS tubing quickly. In my case he was of big help AFTER the sale was done.

I just bought an used 1520 last week. It was sitting without being used for months, and after several cleaning cycles it is working very well, by the way doesn't it uses dye ink instead of pigment ink?

Good luck.
I'm not quite sure dye or pigment but the epson ink seems to be holding up after repeated washes. I have given up the refillable stuff.
