Graphic prep with a vinyl cutter?

HI all, what needs to be done to prepare graphics for a cutter?
I just got a gcc EX-24 to learn with and it seems like in order to cut stuff it has to have an outline not just be a solid vector object, is that normal? I use corel draw X4. Any tips
on running a cutter would be great but any info using corel draw to cut would be super great!
