gildan 6400 and waterbase ink a marriage made in heaven ?

Hi

Looking at making a real nice soft t shirt design. I have tried some samples and the gildan 6400 seems to be ok for me in terms of quality and price. I have read here that water based inks give a nice soft finish.

So,

is shirt and technique a good match up?
what about printing on white v black?
how about more complex designs that may suit process printing?

By the way I won't be doing the printing (I believe thats best left to the pro's) this information will help me tweak designs and buy the right shirts/services

Hope this makes sense and would be really interested in any opinions you guys offer

There are better quality shirts, but not at the same price. Yes, it's a pretty good match up. As a soft and thin shirt, it will certainly do better with waterbased inks than with something heavier like plastisol.
I may be wrong but the main alternatives to the gildan would be american apparel or alternative apparel. the price and availability (I am UK based) is a problem for me.

What are your gripes with the 6400?
this shirt holds up well to dtg printing as well and gives a similar look and feel to the aa shirt at half the price. These are similar in price to the 2000 but you can charge more for them. We add $2 per unit for the 'fashion' shirt.

More or less. Either of which are a lot better, but also a lot more expensive.

The main problem from my perspective is the quality of the fabric isn't as good as the above mentioned brands.

It's all the little details that go into a shirt... it's a cheaper shirt from top to bottom. To get it at the price point it's at, they had to cut some corners. It shows.

It's not totally awful or anything, it's just not as good.
