Gildan 42400 & 42000 Inventory

Anyone here have any idea on what is going on with gildan and their lack of inventory on the 42400 & 42000 sports grey tees?

Every time I go to order either style they seem to be out of most of the sizes and the availability is always several months out................. WTF. I have talked to our supplier (alphabroder) and they don't know what is going on.

It is amazing that as long as this style has been out and a popular as the sports grey seems to be they would have a better handle on managing its inventory. Jerzees has the same issue with their athletic heather tee in both short & long sleeve as well.

This drives me crazy trying to keep these in stock without having to buy them 100 at a time just to have some inventory............

Just wondering and venting about gildans inventory management.

SS Activewear is showing at least 1,000 inventory in each size S-2X across all their warehouses on the 42000, including Gildan's warehouse. A lot less on the long sleeve.
That's true, but the 42400 are their current inventory issue, especially the large. Gildan seems to run out of one style then the other and replacements are usually at last a month away.
What I still don't understand is why they keep letting this happen.

I've had the same problem with Gildan 42000 in UK this year, across most colours.
I did a promotion on fun run t-shirts to all the local running clubs earlier this year. Got some nice orders out of it - until I tried to order the blanks. Had to order from three different suppliers to fill one 400 piece order, and still couldn't get a full size scale across mens and ladies fit. Lost four jobs because I couldn't guarantee availability of colours until after the order was placed. I ended up looking like a mug.

There is the same problem with the 18500 hoody. Every major UK supplier ran out of Black Large - most popular size and colour - in October, with delivery scheduled for mid December. Most colours are currently out of stock.

Maybe Gildan have cashflow and/or production problems? Too many sizes, colours, styles and brands is a recipe for disaster.

For Gildan it is probably better to run out than to be stuck with inventory that does not sell during the seasonal peak. As with all manufacturing, the lowest cost of production results from running at near full capacity 24/7/360. The turnaround time and shipping time is not insignificant, so the entire supply chain runs out if demand outstrips the supply they built up for peak season.

Locally, my supplier had plenty of black 18500 and 18600, but did run short on red 18000, which was probably being used for Bad Christmas Sweater prints. I had to order from all the way across the USA to get that.

The same considerations hold for the suppliers, too, I guess. They don't want to be sitting on 10k pieces of red 18000 come spring and summer.

Still, yes, they could prevent all such shortages simply by increasing total production and sitting on more inventory. And we would all pay for it with a higher price point. I don't think Gildan is in any trouble, just watching the bottom line when it comes to COGS and the tax implications of inventory, as are your suppliers.

But when a major distributor is holding 2500+ medium black and nearly 4000 pieces XL black, yet they have zero large black ( and none available for 6 weeks) there is a problem in the chain that can't be attributed to simple supply and demand fluctuations. All four of the major UK distributors were in the same position, and so was the largest European supplier.

If the most popular size in a size scale is out of stock then the entire line becomes dead stock until the shortage is rectified. Another product from another brand who have a size scale is sourced.

I am sure Gildan are doing fine, but sometimes their supply shortages indicate that they are not 100% on top of things.

Fair enough :)

Have you always had the Anarchist circle-A symbol on your avatar  The first shirt I made myself (uncountable decades ago) was a faded tie-dye (or something of that sort) on which I hand painted "Anarchists for Peace". My great grandmother was a bit taken aback . Still, I persisted.

Only got around to adding it to the avatar a few weeks ago. Indirectly it was the reason I originally got into screen printing. About 15 years ago I had a trade stand on music festivals and a shop selling music related merchandise. I got fed up with paying seven or eight pounds wholesale for t-shirts with a skull and crossbones or anarchy symbol on the front so I decided to print my own.:D

Cool. You might like this design. The idea was suggested to me by a waiter at one of the local diners. He's a bright kid, and we always wade into some vast political/social discussion.

(apologies for thread-jacking )

That's a good design - cool with a subtle message.
