Ok, so I am on a budget, and I'm about to pull the trigger on my first pieces of equipment for my business. Since my first orders are going to be athletic uniforms, I am focusing primarily on first ordering a vinyl cutter/plotter and heat press to get me started. Soon, I will get my screen printing going as well.

I have it narrowed down to a GCC Expert 24 vinyl cutter and a Sunie 16x20 heat press. I do have a few concerns, though.

I realize that the most popular brands of cutter are Roland and Graphtec, but I cannot afford them at this juncture. I am sure I will upgrade to those at some point in time, but right now the GCC is my choice.

I have done my research on countless threads, but I still have one main question:

What can the Roland or Graphtec do that the GCC cant?

Maybe the question has been answered, but I just haven't found it yet. But if anyone would be so kind as to answer the question, or post a link I would be extremely grateful.

Your right Ino. The optic eye allows these cutters to cut out opaque transfers for dark garments. The GCC is great for text or sign vinyl. If you are thinking of getting into transfers, you may want to think of a cutter with an optic eye.

an opportunity just came up to buy these items at auction. They sound familiar, but can anyone give me some more insight about them? Any experience?

The Sol-Jet is a 74" Roland printer / cutter that uses eco-sol ink, it's 6 color (dual CMYK) and would be a Mack-Daddy printer to have if you could get it cheap, and would open a lot of doors in the signage, vehicle graphics, and banner business along with a whole lot more things it can do. We have it's little brother a Versacamm VP-540 and it runs every day in fact as I'm typing this it's printing a 4'x25' banner.

If this is a public auction, buy the heat press also, even if you can't use it it's very high quality and you could resell it very easy.

The difference between this printer and the cutter you are talking about is like the cutter is a moped and the Sol-Jet is the space shuttle.

Hope this helps.

Jon is right.
Lol if the sol jet is the shuttle compared to a moped than the Summa t1400 ti the GCC is like a ferrari to a Trabant.
it seems the guy thats putting these items on auction had some pretty good kit.

hi
The main difference is the life, resale cost and assurence of repairing in case of required. The expert 24 is eco.model of GCC and not the std.model so it is same to buy any good chainese cutter or expert 24 ,if money is concern then you can go for chainese cutter also, some good cutters are FOISON and ICUTTER.

The main difference between the GCC Expert 24 and the Roland and Graphtec is the motor. The Roland and Graphtec have a Servo motor, which is the best motor for vinyl cutters. The GCC Expert 24 has a Stepper motor, which is louder and not as durable when compared to the Servo motor.

What this means is that the GCC Expert 24 can not take the abuse that the Roland and Graphtec can.

It looks like this thread is comparing apples to oranges, you simply cannot compare a $400 GCC expert 24, or any entry level cutter to a Roland or Graphtec , however you can compare the GCC Puma or Jaguar to the Roland,Graphtec or Summa cutter. The upper scale entry level GCC would be the Bengal cutter, it has servo motors and scale spec wise except for the optical eye to the Roland or Graphtec. Its also interesting to note that the machined parts of the GCC is made in Japan and that GCC is the only cutter to my knowledge that did not take a price increase this year,, while the Roland and Graphtec cutters are excellent machines they to are built in Asia and I am afraid for the time being because of labor costs it will continue to be the case.
