Bought the name at Godaddy and after reading some post on the forum and doing some research decided to go through Gator Host to host the site. I watched a video on youtube that everyone raved about in the comments so set up the laptop and went step by step but as of now all that show's up is the site being temporarily parked for free at godaddy.

When setting up I chose the quick install and am trying to use worpress to build the site so selected it and all said it has loaded ok so here I sit with nothing to start building on and the www. sitting over at godaddy. The guy doing the video said it could take up to a whole day for it to get over there but usually shows up in about 2 hours, it has been 26.

Any help would be much appreciated. I did do a online chat with Gator Host and after awhile my son asked me if I knew I was talking to a bot?? lol I'm older so please cut me a little slack.

Thanks for any help,

LeRoy

unfortunately hostgator is an eig co.

it can take awhile to get the transfer, depending on how many are in the queue

ask them on their live chat if there is something you missed doing on your end,
that might help get the ball moving

edit: just did a quick search and they only get 1 out of 5 on trustpilot
see if you can get your money back and go with a better host

Thanks wish I would have been more savvy and looked that site you went to up and saw the reviews lol. I only did the monthly plan so will be in the process of going elsewhere . Looking for something that will function properly, can be used with wordpress and is not real expensive as we are just starting out and sales (at least for a few months) won't be the kind that warrants putting out a lot of money each month.

I read some good things about Gator on here and that is one of the reasons I decided to try it but apparently it seems over the last couple of years it has been going down hill.

Any ideas?

Thank You ,

Years ago HostGator was fairly well thought of, before they were bought out by that company that owns so many now. I had originally planned on using them, but before I got around to it, I heard of the buyout. I already knew egi sucked, so I looked elsewhere.

I ended up going with NameCheap. I'm happy enough with them. I've been able to get help easily enough the few times I FUBARed something

There may well be better options, as I have not looked into this for some years now.

NOTE The thing with egi companies is that once bought, those companies are just brand names, and nothing more, as all their brands run on the same servers with the same tech support, and cease to be anything other than rebranded egi.

Did you change the DNS at GoDaddy to point to the server/service at HostGator? DNS is Domain Name Service. It's how your website is translated to the IP address of where your website lives. You can think of it as the United States Postal Service (or the postal service in your part of the world). You have a physical address where you receive mail, this would be the same as the IP address of the server. Your name translates to an address so your mail can be delivered properly. If you didn't change the DNS, then your website that is hosted at HostGator will never show up when someone goes to your websites address/domain name.
