Does anyone use any thing cheaper than the commercial ink degrader to clean up after plastisol? Ive got some of the screen wash from ryonet and it wirks great but is there anything less expensive that works?
I'm assuming there are other things you can use. I've heard of people using mineral spirits in a pinch. The problem is that cleaners/chemicals that aren't made for silk screening can cause problems with your screens. It is possible that some chemicals might "lock" your emulsion into your screen and then you would never be able to reclaim that screen.
I would shop around and see if you can get better pricing on your industry chemicals before you try to get stuff not intended for silk screening. Ryonet is great, but some of their prices can be matched or beat by other vendors. I usually get my supplies from Ryonet, Victory Factory, Pocon Screen Supply, and Performance Screen Supply. I live in Southern New Jersey.
Turn a filled up test shirt inside out and wipe it dry really well too--you'll barely have any ink left to take out. Cure the tshirt in your dryer or under the flash and you can dispose of it as solid waste. (without being a jerk )
I use the citra paste. Scrape all large ink deposits off, spray down top to bottom, scrub from bottom to top with a brush and rinse. I had a lot of issues before I got the citrapaste, changed everything and worth every penny. this is not an area to cut corners, what you save by using alternatives (mineral spirits, whatever else) you're going to waste a ton of time and energy scrubbing over and over. just spring for the gallon for $25 and you're golden.
