matsui and rutland make a nice water bases . but it all comes down to preference of how and what you're trying to do.
hi there, i have palyed around with a few, permaset, sericol amd rutland. But my current fav is magna. An english company. the discharge is superb as well as the pigment binder standard system.

Yes, Magna's discharge are great, especially non formaldehyde range. Also they started production of new non drying in the screen opaques range.

Anyone know where I can get Magna discharge in the US? I am super new to screen printing and my supplier does not stock it. I am interested in formaldehyde free discharge and Magna is the only one that came up for me in a Google search.

Thanks!
In US you can find the same products, but with different name. It is all Wilflex Oasis waterbased range. Non formaldehyde discharge is called Wilflex Oasis NF Discharge or very similary. Because Magna supply these products to Wilflex and Wilflex has right to rebrand them and sell under it's own name.
Thanks LitPrinter for the answer!

Few follow up questions....

1. Can I use Wilflex discharge as under base, flash dry and then overprint with Matsui RC inks (which is what I have now)?

2. I read on a few threads on the forum comments like - "...if the discharge is formaldehyde free, it probably has something else that is worse for you".

That is a speculative statement....anyone know for sure if this is true?

3. Does wilflex discharge have the same kind of nasty odors as other discharge products (I have only experienced the smell of matsui discharge at a screen printing class)?

My new little screen print setup is in my garage connected to the house and I am concerned about environmental safety in general and in particular it's impact on my family and odors in the house.

Thanks in advance for any answers one can provide.

I've only used Permaset but I really like their inks because I can print on dark garments with their supercover line and first down white. I prefer not to use discharge so this is the only option I've found for really great opacity. The downside to their supercover and inks is that you must be sure flood the screen between printing as well as mist the screen to keep it from drying.

Thanks Nomadic. I just tried my most recent order with permaset on charcoal gray....ink colors were scarlet red, black and white and it came out quite well. I did not need an under base although I had the first down white on hand. I am quite happy with the result. However, white was a pain to work with despite flooding and also misting regularly.
