I have a customer who has to have a 18 inch jacket back for their largest size. I have a machine that might be able to do it but no hoops that are that large. I have a SWF 1501T which has an enormous sewing field. These are supplied Dickies jackets so I really don't want to make any mistakes but at the same time would like to accommodate the request. I have the boarder frame that came with the machine but don't see how I could utilize that either. I have had this machine for two weeks now and have a basic understanding of it's operation but it is much different from the smaller Brother six needle machines I have been using for the last couple of years. I see there is a 17" hoop for the C machines how big does it really go and is there another way of doing large backs? I appreciate any insight that can be provided. :)

The border frame is designed to be used with flat items, not something bulky like a jacket. The only way I think you could do a jacket on it would be to use a layer of sticky backing under the frame and possibly clip the jacket to the edges. I think the 1501T border frame is only 16 tall and 20 wide? Haven't used it in so long I forget the exact size.

Is there any way to break the design into multiple pieces and re-hoop the jacket? I know we could do something like that on our Brother 10 needle since it has the camera to re-align things.

I dont really want to split the design since there is not really a good place to do that but may have too. I was hoping there was a extra large hoop that I could buy in order to do it one shot! The boarder frame has a 22.5" window will try hooping the stabilizer but that makes me super nervious.:(

Mark, Why don't you call the folks at HoopMaster/Mighty Hoop, ask for Jessie. IF any kind of hoop can handle that, I would bet it's the Mighty Hoop. They really DO work just the way the video shows them to work, extremely magnetic, but will not hurt your machine. Perhaps there is a clamp style hoop available for the Baurdan, that might do it. The "under-the-hoop method," that Ted mentioned might work, but you will be babysitting it the entire time. I think that you are going to end up babysitting the machine no matter what type of hooping you do. Binki's suggestion is also a good way to go, especially since you are not supplying the garments. Be double sure that you get a signature on paper, that removes you from being responsible for their garments. Just another thought. I would print out a template and pin it to the jacket, so your customer could REALLY see how it is going to look. I do that for my customers, when they "think" they want something that I KNOW is too large. They have always changed their minds about the size, once they see the template laid out on their garment. And.....IF you feel comfortable with subbing them out to an embroidery shop with a larger machine/hoop capability than yours.....then just tack on a few extra dollars for you.....and you'll save yourself at least 1 sleepless night! haha! Please let us know how it goes.

The border frame may have an opening of 22.5 but I'm not sure the y motor can actually travel that far? I definately would not want the pantograph bouncing off the wood edges of the table top, I already had to replace the Y motor and it cost me almost $1200 by the time I got done....

Like Lollie Conn said, hoopmaster may be able to make you a custom mighty hoop, I would just make sure the machine itself can handle it before you go down that street. I have one of either the 11x13 or 13x16 frames, I forget which, but I don't think that will solve your problem.

If there is any possibility of splitting the design, it could also possibly be done on a Brother PR1000/Babylock ENT10 machine since they have a camera to allow for re-hooping and aligning the design. We just got an ENT10 and haven't tried doing that yet but it's possible in theory.
