Exposure unit - safe light?

Question, I'm buying an exposure unit, in the under $2000 range and I see that some have a safe light built in.

In your experience is the safe light necessary? I want to get the most bang for my buck and it would be great if the exposure unit could double as a light table, but why doesn't every manufacturer have them?

Thanks! :)

Safe light is only needed if your lining up films or as a light table needing light safe conditions. As posted in many threads a simple standard fluorescent light will work as a safe light as the put out very little UV light. With that said I wouldn't use one in a exposure unit that uses unfiltered black lights as the bulb would be too close. I don't use a light table and just use overhead florescent light in the shop.

I knew I was missing something when high quality manufacturers like Vastex and Anatol don't have safe lights in their exposure units. Thanks for your reply!
For a safe light a desk lamp with a yellow "bug light" bulb will work fine. Gives off plenty of light without exposing the screen, much brighter than the red safe lights used in photography darkrooms.
