I'm looking at building an exposure unit here at home. I'm planning on going the long tube bulbs route. But I was wondering, do the bulbs have to be UV bulbs or could standard fluorescent bulbs work. Thanks for any tips. Love this place.

Hi mike, there are a few factors you need to get a good "home" exposure.
Use a fast exposing emulsion and try not to be too generous in coating, the thicker the emulsion the longer the exposure.
Ultra violet light is the key mate you need them 4 or 5 will do, paint the inside of your box bright white and make your glass about 20cm from the tubes.
A weight that will fit inside the screen with a sponge setup will keep your positive flat enough for an exposure and cover the whole unit with black fabric try and keep the light in. you will get a result with this and improve as you go try 5-6minutes and see how it the stencil goes..............

I use 20" super UV reptile lights from Pet Smart. Exposure times run 2 minutes 45 seconds using Ulano QT discharge. I can hold 5 point type and 190 ppi index separations reliably.:)
