Expanding the business

Hello all!

I am after a little bit of advice.

I started a t-shirt business fairly recently and demand for my designs and t-shirts has been immense.

My designs generally use quite a lot of colours. I have been looking at different print methods recently and can't decide what to do!

I recently completed a large order and had a load of Plastisol transfers made. These were great but seemed quite expensive.

I like the idea of screen printing but I'm not sure I have the space or budget to buy the equipment... and wouldn't it be hard to do full colour designs?

Basically, I'm a bit stuck.

At the moment I am using Jetpro stuff which is great but I do want to eventually step up a gear and go for a more professional finish.

What do companies like Threadless do? I presume their designs are all screen printed?

Sorry this is all a bit random! I would really appreciate your ideas/suggestions as I am sure many of you have gone through the same evolution with your t-shirt businesses.

All the best!

There is a learning curve to screenprinting, and process printing is basically at the top of that curve (i.e. it's the hardest thing to learn). So yes, full colour is hard.

Outsourcing the printing is perfectly cost effective if you're printing in enough quantity though.

Yes, Threadless (and almost all companies like them) use screenprinting.

Do you have examples of your designs, or a website that you can show us? Threadless does mostly screen printing - but it is cost effective for them to print full color pieces because of the quantity that they order!
or contract DTG. especially with the low count
