I just realized all of my listings on Etsy show only 1 available. What number under quantity should I list? I print to order and have variations on size and color. Any downside to just putting in 100? I don't believe there would be a $20 charge for that, still only $.20. thanks

You want to create a sense of urgency in your buyers. If I see an inventory of 100, I think I have a bunch of time to order and therefore may not order right away.

Etsy is known for one-off, unique, one of a kind (I realize all those mean the same thing :)) things. That's what attract shoppers. You put 100 and you're turning away those type of shoppers.

If you want to list more than 1 item available, I wouldn't bump up that number too much. Maybe 3, or 6.

Keep the allure that your product is special.

It only seems to show a quantity if its 1. I changed a couple of listings to "quantity" 2 and no number is shown. I'm wondering if the quantity of 1 turned people away. Did they think I only had 1 shirt of a certain design and it would only be available in red in one size? None of the other T shirt shops I went to had the quantity of 1 showing.

I really want to make sure I'm not running up huge fees with multiples for a quantity or that I'm selling 5 shirts for $17. I did add a shirt where I had the quantity at 2 to a cart and it did show just one shirt.

I think there may also be something that happens with auto renewals.

Well then, if you only have two choices to list; 1 or nothing, choose nothing. Showing nothing accomplishes both. It won't turn people away while still giving the illusion it's a one-off.

There is a Quantity drop-down-list in each listing so the customer can select how many to order. When the listing is displayed, it will be on 1. If you set the listing up with 100 items, then the drop-down list will have 1 to 100 if/when the user clicks on it.

Etsy does not charge you for the number of items available in a listing.

I set the number at 100.

I prefer the auto-renew. It's worth the 20 cent relisting. Just put one available. If it sells, that is money in your pocket and you mind the fees because you've got a sale. Or increase your pricing to offset the fees. Either way, I agree with the "less is more" idea of quantity available.

The quantity listed has nothing to do with the fee. You pay $.20 every time you create or renew a listing. You also pay $.20 every time a listing sells. The Auto Renewal setting applies to the 3 month life span of a listing, not to when it sells.

Again, what the customer sees is the Quantity selector ListBox. This will always display "1" unless the customer clicks on the list box and selects 2, 3, or whatever. If you set the quantity available in your listing to "1" then your customer will not be able to select 2, or 3, or... In other words, your customer CAN ONLY BUY ONE!

You all are outsmarting yourselfs in trying to manipulate the customer :p

I've sold as many as 5 of the same thing in one order, and had an order for 2 just yesterday. Why would I want to get in the way of that :)
