The one thing that I think is still outstanding is the waste tank resetter. I am not sure that this software has surfaced from my sources. Otherwise, I think it would be a great printer for a DIY. Let me know if you come across this.

i hadnt given that much thought, i use the ssc service utility software to reset the 1800 and 1160, i just checked and the 1900 isnt listed in there, thats a worry.

I have used the ssc utility on an Epson printer that wasn't listed, as I found two boxes at the bottom of the list 'unsupported printer' and 'unsupported printer old'. No guarantees it would work out with every model though.

I read somewhere a few weeks back, that Epson are going to be doing something with their new generation of printers, where fitting auto reset chips will no longer work. If that is the case, it would mean refillable cartridges and CIS systems would no longer be able to be used. If that does prove to be their new stance, I will be stocking up on the older models.

i tried the ssc service utility with the unsupported d92 we use for general office use, it worked but the important utilitys such as reset counters and powerful head clean were greyed out. I wonder if the 1800 setting on there would work with a 1900 ? from marks comments above i doubt it but is there anyone out there with a normal 1900 that can try the ssc service utility as a 1800 and let us know if it can even recognise it and what serivces are not greyed out if you use the unknown setting ?

Will isnt the protection you speak of the stuff thats already in the 1900 4880 etc... ? it took longer than usual but its cracked open now, unless there is something else on the horizon ?

The chip protection will be on the new generation of models that aren't on the market just yet. Epson claim it will totally prevent the use of auto reset chips and the like.

Epson have already won a recent legal case to stop people selling refillable cartridges for its printers in the states. I don't know how well that would stand up in European courts though, as the monopolies commission might have something to say about that.

The people that produce the scc utility, may be able to tell you if it will work with the 1900 model.

I'm not sure whether the teflon head on the 1900 will do a great deal to reduce printhead clogs, but its certainly worth trying to reduce the owners stress levels.

thanks for the offer but there isnt any real designing to be done, im going to mount the system to the shell exactly the same way i did the 1800, im even reusing the shell from that build to save time. All i need now is a 1900, i have missed out on a few on ebay this week, why are people prepared to pay over £200 delivered for a used printer with an unknown past when a new one can be had for £300 ? it baffles me it really does.........

a little update, im currently waiting for the white ink/pretreatment to arrive before i purchase a 1900, why is it if i miss one ending on ebay its gone fairly cheap but if i stay around for an auction end i get outbid and it goes for a ridiculous amount ? seriously i have missed out on over a dozen recently........... hohum....... something will turn up or im going to have to pay full retail which will break my heart, im so tight i only breath in!!!

Ok I know this is a diy thread but I wanted to say that the way it works on my R2400 on my dtg, is that I have to buy new chips every time they run out. They are not resettable. I do believe the R1800 chips are though. I am not sure about the 1900. Its a real pain but they have made the chips for my machine to be non resettable.

Also Steve, I wanted to ask if you have looked at the epson clearance center to see if they have a good price on a printer there? I dont know what kind of prices the ones on ebay are going for, but maybe there is a good deal at the clearance center, I see they have a R1800 listed on there for a fairly good price. i always see good deals on the epson US site but im in the UK and nothing decent ever seems to come up on our version
As far as chip resetting goes i will be using refillable carts for the 1900 (already bought two sets, one for cleaning) i got them from the same seller who sold me the 1800 refillables, so hopefully there shouldnt be a problem, im also hopeing that as the white ink is in the carts it shouldnt need all the shaking etc.... as its surely getting a good mix by being swooshed over the shirts a few hundred times a day ? thats the theory anyway

As far as the white ink you will still have to shake it daily as the titanium is heavy and settles in the bottom of the cartridge. My machine has a agitator system that shakes my ink container, maybe you can figure something out like that for your white ink, so you dont have to shake it?

Our electrics operate on 220 volts in the UK BobbieLee, so we have to use droppers to use your 110 volt equipment. Epson UK won't supply spare parts for USA made machines.

You are right on International freight costs. I have just bought three sets of empty refillable cartidges from the states and the USPS cost was $40.

Oh that is right, you guys have different power then us I totally didnt even think of that. I remember now that when my dad and his wife went on vacation, they had to use power converters? For their hair dryers and such ? Wow that is expensive for shipping. Ok so much for my great info haha

We are very competitive with our outgoing freight charges (Royal Mail), but your US suppliers are either having a laugh, or being shafted by USPS. Either way it is costing US suppliers a great deal of lost international opportunities.

I agree shipping prices are crazy, that is why I only ship within the us. If it was more affordable to ship internationally I would but its just way to much.

Hello what are the results of all this please.. Can resettable chip ink carts still be used in the R1900? I need to know because would like to purchase the R1900. Please let me know.

Found the R1900 waste ink reset program. I followed the links and it is from Epson free. No problem, they emailed the activation code in about 10 minutes with the download link.
