Epson based vs built for dtg?

2512 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  23spiderman
So is there a better choice? Or are they both just as good. I got samples from Melco, and was not happy at all. They are epson based. Then I got samples from Anajet, who claim to be built for dtg, not a modified epson. Their sample was amazing. Is more about the rip that makes the shirts come out good?

Couldn't help but notice that Melco isn't even on the list of DTGs. Glad I didn't go that route...
Some Epson based printers are better than others .. Check out neoflex. The printer has a huge printable area, you can load 3 shirts on the bed at the same time, the print quality is awesome (better than anajet) the rip is supposed to be one of the best out there, and the tech support is superb. Not to mention you can upgrade it to print on literally anything that is flat (plastic, metal, wood, glass, etc.) for around 6k . The printer is also in the low price range compared to others in its class. I just researched for 6 months before buying one and I just pulled the trigger on the Neo 2 weeks ago.

My question is, how much printing will you be doing?
My answer is as much as I can. I want to do online and local sales and eventually open a store. I am a graphic artist and work with a few screenprinters that will hopefully outsource to me as well.
LOL,
My opinion is No Built in Dtg is in better position than Epson now and over priced. Still going through developing stage. Too many bugs and not enough referencers. You also need to pay attention on supplies cost.
Cheers! Beers are on me always.
NeoFlex is the best out there right now. start with one and if your business grows, get a 2nd. you'll be churning out as many shirts as the "fastest" printers out there...if those "fast" printers can even get one shirt done.

AA supplies excellent service, and they will back YOU up and support YOU all the way.

NeoFlex did take first and 2nd on the Battle Royale... gonna request some info... and I will surely check em out this weekend.
Neoflex is only a 4880 Epson ^^ Cant understand that hype..

I have seen this machine in Germany on TVP Textile and ... What should I say... 3 of my customers have bought a Neoflex and after 6 month they are coming back :D
the NeoFlex does run on the Epson 48XX which is just fine. the resolution is high with the small drop size, but the main advantage is the NeoRIP Pro. it's the best i've seen out there in how it handles detailed files and photos with hardly any need for art modification. plus with the ability to print 3 shirts, the print head is always printing. move the 3 platens off, and now you have a printable area of about 17" wide by 42" long.

the hype behind it is the support you get from AA. i'm in the US, so i can't speak for other countries, but AA is the best support available.

Rodney, I looked at that post and there is a load of good info there. I just wanted the straight nitty gritty. Wanted to see who chimed in. Generally, someone proud of the equipment they use isn't afraid to continually talk about it. I been seeing lots of good stuff about the NeoFlex and some good comments on the Mod1. Not many people mention anything else except Brother and Anajet. However not too much is said about Brother and I know they just released a new machine. I originally wanted to get an Anajet, but I have read more negative than possitive, which is sad because I was really leaning towards an mp5.
I totally posted on the wrong thread. Oh well, I will just copy and paste :p
Brother is what I prefer because it's reliable and easy to use. The GraffiTee is Brother's new line of printer I've heard a lot of great things. There are 3 printers in this line two of them print white ink and the price point is a lot better.
Shane,
I hope you made home safe. Long drive.
It was my great pleasure to talk with you and your half. You are lucky dude! Lol
Roman and you are good match. Let's make some serious $$$$$$$! By the way That was great art work.
Cheers! Beers are on me always.

They actually took First, Second and Fourth.... ;) And the difference between third and fourth place was about a single point, or so. We call that "putting our money where our mouth is".

Trust me, not everyone is cut out for DTG printing no matter WHAT machine they buy.... As for the "hype" - I think other people covered the specifics pretty well (industry standard in customer service, highest possible print quality out of any DTG printer currently available, etc); my thoughts are it is no longer hype when you are actually dominating the print competitions and the tsunami of positive user experiences start rolling in (ie, check the forums for user feedback).

As for all this talk in various threads about how "most people can't even tell the difference between one print and another, unless they are industry insiders" - please spend five minutes evaluating the various prints submitted for the DTG Battle Royale print-off (DTG BATTLE ROYALE - T-Shirt Forums) - if you are one of those people who still think that the differences between the various machines are almost indistinguishable, well then I don't think any amount of talking will ever change your mind (a picture is worth 1,000,000,000 words, in this case).

I must add the disclaimer that it also comes down to the individual operating the equipment, since there is still a lot of skill and perseverance required to be successful with DTG printing; however, you can't tell me with a straight face that having superior tools wouldn't make ANY craftsman or artisan even better at their trade.

I'm sold on the NeoFlex for sure. Now the process of getting money for the machine. My wife and I figure we can come up with the funds to pay cash for it in less than a year.

If it Appreciates buy it, if it depreciates lease it.. common and good advice.
use cash flow to build business.. not use it all up to buy business..

My 2 cent.. from one who is about to lease some DTG equipment.

IF I Can Find Right machine to start with?

These threads are VERY healpfull.
would Really Appreciate hearing from Anajet Mpower and MOD1 and Neo users alike.
Neo for print quality, but what about others who buy for other reasons.

comparing..
Production Speed and COST per print ?
Low learning curve?
Low maintenance?
Reliability?

If all else equal then yes.. pure print quality and perhaps cost/for ROI.
You get the same price per garment regardless of 250,000 Kornit or 20,000 epson based.
So.. now the other factors are..

business leases are nothing like car leases. be very wary if you are going to lease your printing equipment. i am currently wrestling with the Pacific Financial, and it was one of the WORST business decisions i've made. they are royally screwing us, and won't return my calls now. i highly recommend you outsource until you have enough to purchase outright. or use your local bank, or even better, your local credit union.

speed to print one shirt is irrelevant as most numbers from sales' reps are inflated. total production is what you want to know. maintenance is about the same on all machines in terms of time. just go through the different fourms, and you'll get an idea of reliability, customer service, and ease of use.

you want quality to go out your door. if you can achieve that, then you'll get the quantity. if you don't have quality, or your quality is inconsistent, then it doesn't matter how fast you can print since no one will be ordering from you. quality first, speed second. you can always add another printer in the future with your profits.
