Yesterday I picked up an Epson 2200 from a local GoodWill for 5 bucks, not joking. I ran an ad on craigslist looking for a 2200 or 1800/1900 and got a call saying he had just donated his 2200 to GoodWill the previous night. I was very pleased, lol.

When I got it home 5 of the 7 cartridges were empty. Got all brand new cartridges (20 bucks from craigslist) and ran the head cleaning about 10 times and every color comes out perfect with no bands or gaps except the yellow. It doesnt print yellow at all, not even a faint print. So I cleaned the yellow ink port, bottom of the head, and the sponge with distilled water and a little bit of windex. Still no luck.

I was wondering if I could set up a CIS with CMYK in the first 4 slots, and use just 2 for white? I have MultiRip GP but havent played with it before. Will using just 2 slots instead of 3 be able to lay down enough white ink for a good print? Anyone with MultiRip GP experience?

Thanks,
Joey

Make a soaking tub from a plastic container. Cut a hole just big enough for the head itself to go thru. Fill tub with warm windex and distilled water. Take a syringe with a piece of small tubing. Inject thru top just a small amount of same solution.
Let sit for several hours. Remove and replace solution with clean. Put head back in solution. Use syringe and tubing to suck fluid from tub thru head. If you try to push you can easily separate the plate from the head.
If you get electronics or connectors wet dry and let sit for a very long time. Any moisture in the connectors will blow head burn ribbon cables and or blow mother board. This is the short version. Use only original windex none with extra shining additives. Look under DTG section you should find more info there. Cleaning heads is a way of life for them.

Thank you for the quick reply. I was kinda figuring that was the next step. I was just hoping there was another way without removing the head assembly . Any idea if my plan to just scrap that slot and use Mutirip to control the remaining ink slots would work?

Hello Joey,

You will not be able to get enough coverage out of 2 channels of white ink to print on dark garments using an Epson 2200 printer. Back in the day, several T-Jet 2 owners would do two passes of white ink and that was using 3 channels of white ink at the larger dot size.

I agree with Randy about cleaning the print head as your first step. Good luck!

I have this weekend off so I will start to disassemble the printer and clean the head when I get it out. If I still can't get the yellow channel to unclogg I guess I'll just print light colored tees until I find another head. I will post back with an update :)

Success!

Following spiderx1 advice I suspended the head in a 50/50 solution of distilled water and windex. Flushed out the ports on top of the head and let sit for a couple hours before using. All channels are printing again!

One question. I did the nozel check and the test print looks perfect, do I still need to do a print head alignment? I read different threads that say its required to run the EPSON servicing software after a head change or removal.

Thanks again for the help.

I would run the head alignment. I sometimes do this a few times to get it perfect. I use a 10x loop to inspect the print to get the most accurate #.
