Hi all

I print my positives on a 1400 without any rip software

I have got some refillable cartridges and a chip deserter on standby, but I'm wondering if I can just fill all the blank refil cartridges with black ink

Or will it ruin the printheads

Any help would be appreciated

If you use all black cartridges, they have to be chipped for the cartridge they replace. So a black going into the cyan slot needs to be chipped to read as a cyan cartridge. Just a black cartridge in a color slot won't be recognized and the printer won't print.

Thanks for the reply

I understand that the cartridges.need to correspond with the matching slot in the printer

I just wondered if the printer could tell black in was in the cyan magenta etc cartridges and if it would print ok with all black ink

Without a RIP, you get it to print from "all" carts by creating your art as Rich Black, a mix of all colors. Using a color that is 25% C, 25% M, 25% Y, 25% K is straightforward enough, but I have no idea how you would get it to draw from the Light Cyan and Light Magenta without a RIP.

What program are you using to create/print your art?

I use illustrator and Photoshop

I use the normal drivers and I get good stencils using the cmyk mix as the ink is uv resistant

But, if I fill the cmy cartridges with black ink I'm hoping that it would produce a solid black stencil and also save costs of having to by the other colours as well as black
