From what I saw, this uses dye ink. Not for transfers.

I have a refurb 1400 and use heat transfer pigment inks for my JPSS transfers and screen print films. Never had one problem with the printer.

Epson refurbished printers still carry a one year warranty. Although I've never purchased a refurbished 1400, I have purchased quite a few refurbished R1800's. They stand by their products.
