I had someone to create me a design in .eps format and the file says ".eps" but when I open it in corel it downloads as a bitmap. Am I doing something wrong or is this not a true .eps file? Never had this prob before until now. Just wanna make sure it's not something I'm doing before I contact designer.

Not your problem. They just saved a raster image in eps format. I just finished 127 different logo that needed to be vector in an eps format 65% of them sent were either all or part raster. Same thing happens with pdf or ai or cdr for that matter.

Ok thanks for your help!!
Been there done that got the T shirt.
eps is encapsulated postscript, it is a container that is versatile enough to carry any format.
It's close to postscript or a pdf (which is postscript based), you can have pictures, text and vectors in it.
you were tricked in a way...there was no need to send it to you in eps format, but maybe you asked it that way. for most of the times...eps contains vector elements.

So what's a clear way to relate to someone that I need the entire image vector? What format?
just say you need the vector artwork in .eps format - simple as that
G
Ok thanks!
The real cure or one of them is to ask for vector 1st and then vector eps and explain to them the artist on the other end needs to create it in a vector program. the other side of that is to use your trace program to make it a vector and then if not possible look for someone here on the forums that can do that for you

Ask the person who created the logo to send you the logo saved as an .ai file. Be sure to have the save the image down on the version of Illustrator. You should be able to manipulate the image then. You could also have them send it as a vector pdf. Just be sure to specify that you want a vector file.

Can a PDF file be created with 100% vector?

PDF is based on postscript, it can hold anything.
If it was a jpeg that they simply saved as an eps file, it will not change to a vector format. Another words it will have a pixel finish and not a clean finish to it. When I run into this I sometimes go to vectormagic.com and have it traced. The first few are free and then there is a charge after that.

Yeah I guess I could do that but if I'm paying someone to create a vector design then I don't want to have to pay to get it vectorized to. Guess I just need to make it clearer next time :)
I am with you now....yes, if you are paying then you should expect it to be usable. Are you in adobe illustrator or corel draw because I have ran into that before when using corel and I might be able to give you a quick fix for that.
G
Yes I use corel draw x4
Sorry to just get back...busy Saturday. You may have tried this already but just in case, here is what I have done in Corel with similar circumstances. In Corel-Go to File-Import>Files of type: PS, PRN, EPS-PostScript Interpreted. Going here instead of just to the EPS selection has allowed me to open up files I couldn't open otherwise. Good Luck!
Hey thought I would jump on this thread with a little different question. I have an eps file I import into corel X5,(X4 does the same) I look at it for accuracy then export in eps, then try to import back just to be sure it works and I get an unable to open file error message. Not sure whats doing this. I then start over save as CMX Pres. 5.0. Then import back in and export as eps, then back into corel and it's fine. Anybody got a clue on this one.
