I need some good cut-a-way and tear-a-way. The advice on the bobbin and needles was so good I decided to let you guys/gals help me with buying backing online as well.

Re: Backing

What weight are you looking for? Are you interested in rolls or sheets? What sorts of materials do you embroider? The answers to those questions will probably have an impact on the recommendations that are made about what you should use.
Re: Backing

I use backing material from Madeira.
They have a wide range of stuff and you wil definitly find the right backing for the job you want to be done.
They send me a chart with examples (pieces of backingmaterial samples) so you can see and feel the differences.

I have been using inspira. I like rolls, but I guess it really doesn't matter. I make patches on duck cloth and straight to leather. I do shirts sometimes, but most of the work is one of the first two.
If you are near the east coast I suggest Fabrictex located in NJ. I especially love their soft medium-heavy cutaway and their prices are much cheaper than what I've seen elsewhere. Home Page They have a wide selection, will send a swatch catalogue and you can purchase smaller quantities although buying in bulk will save you money.
Gunold.. they have a sample pack of all their backings that give out. It helps to compare all their backings.

Best stabilizer I have found comes from Floriana (florianacommercial.com) or from Fred Lebow which sells his through americianembsupply.com. Both of these guys wrote the book on stabilizers.
check out stitch backers you can get it in roll or pre cut patches. works well.
Fabrictex, well the site looks nice, but there's no pricing. Do you have to call for that? Gunold seem to be the same way. Maybe I'll go where I get my needles and bobbins from. They are cheaper for the same brand of needles and bobbins I saw on Gunold site.
I always call Fabrictex. They access what you've ordred in the past so its very quick and easy to reorder.
But what's the cost? I know it's only a few dollars, but the bobbins I use are $2 cheaper at the site a bought them from for the same bobbins and count. The needles are cheaper too. So I assume the backing will be cheaper as well.
