Ebay press finally gave out

The last couple of night I was getting horrible results heat pressing foil onto shirts. Half of the foil would not transfer. After hours of troubleshooting I realized that when I closed the clamshell the heat panel would not press against the top half of the platen. I flipped over the press and this is what I saw. A metal bar part that was paert of the base split in half. I guess I don't know my own strength, even though I don't think I was using too much pressure. Anyone know any other uses for this press now? I don't think it could be welded. Should I just toss it in the garbage? Thanks

Wow! actually a welding shop could repair it if you disassembled first, but depending on what you paid for the press it might not be worth the effort, I'd guess a welding shop might charge you $75-$100 to cut a couple plates to cover the break and weld everything back square, if you know someone with a welder you could probably get it fixed for a few beers. LOL!

Hope this helps.
I'd probably be better off getting another press. I need a bigger size anyway. I knew the risk of buying a press on ebay but I always thought temp control would burn out, or the heat panel would go bad. But it did last me a couple of years (a couple of years longer than I thought).

Yeah....even if you buy a new press since the electronics are still good it might be worth finding a friend that can weld so you'd have a back up or a second press....just a thought.

Hope this helps.
Yes Just get It welded or get a simalir model And use it for parts if that one ever breaks!
Or recycle and give it to a friend that has a boat to use as an anchor. :D
WOW I didnt know ebay made heat presses!
I dont know why people associate chinese parts and equipment that they buy on ebay as ebay did this?
I have a friend that bought a pair of headlight assy. for a trailblazer and got a real good deal on them well when he went to install them there was 2 tabs broke off each one and he was so pissed off at ebay said he will never buy from them again, I just cant figure it out for one it stated in the description that they were broke and two it wasnt ebays fault even if it was the sellers fault it is still not ebays fault
But I know how you feel I have a cheap heat press as well over 5 years now and still working Got my moneys worht out if it But year welding shop you go--- they can fix it
I just looked at the manual and its looks like its a 123heatpress.com that I bought from ebay. I may have a buddy who may want it to cure plastisol ink with. If not maybe someone on craiglist may want it and fix it. I'd keep it but if I'm gonna get a 16X20 press I just wont have any space for it.
If you can afford it, get a new Hotronix or Maxx. I am new at this myself, but have been doing a great deal of R&R(research reading). Both presses, made by Stahls, are identical except the Hotronix is auto-clam and digital pressure read. The best feature, both are made from a single piece of of cast-iron, eliminating welds, which prevents what happen to you from happening at all.

The welding broke from excessive use and time, perhaps not by you, but previous user(s).

I'd stay away from ebay. IMO, they have lost their original intent and purpose. IMO, it is short of an open flea mart, a lot of sleazy folks passing 'junk' inventory just to make a quick buck..it is a 'buyer beware mart', with very little buyer support from getting burned
Thanks for the info hippie. I told myself I wasn't gonna buy another no name heat press, but the day right after my heat press broke I got a rush job for some foil shirts. I did some research and found a company that sells heat presses located nearby my work. I found out they sell their presses on ebay and amazon. Long story short I winded up buying a 16 X 24 heat press for $200 (it was a return because it was too big for the buyer). I finished a 100 foil shirts this weekend with no problem (aside of the press being huge!) . I do feel better when you are actually face to face with the seller, as for the quality of the press, for 200 bucks I guess I'll wait and see.
Get a hotronix auto clam.

And use the old as a big paperweight.
I just bought this heat press off ebay:
6 in 1 Digital Heat Press Machine T-Shirt Hat Mug Plate - eBay (item 400145885826 end time Aug-27-10 08:52:07 PDT)

Anyone out there use it or know anything about it?
I got it for a good deal, expecting little but hoping for the best. After reading that you got a few years out of yours, I am cautiously optimistic!

I was just looking at the same exact one, but I'm nervous.
What is everyones take with the Presses on Ebay??

I mean they can't be to much different.
One thing I did notice was that many of them don't have the floating deck, to make sure things get pressed evenly.
I searched ebay on the the entire forum and read a bunch of reviews of different ones and which ones people had problems with but no one has commented on this model.

I won my bid a few days ago and will be getting it next week. I'll be sure to post a review. If there is anything in particular that you are looking for, let me know and I'll test it

MM
They are pure junk...made in China (really), parts would be hard to replace, heating elements not up to par as the well known-American brands/Hotronix/Hix/

Buyer beware...
That's the seller that I got my new press from. They are located in Burlingame california. They seem like nice people, let me know how it works out for you. The press I got has had no problems but its only been a week.
Quite honestly spend a little extra for quality. At the and of the day we all started up with budgets, some of us wig very tight budgets but don't compromise on the 1 thing that ur business will need to work. It's like having a factory with workers on strike, production gets disturbed.
Vadan,

I agree completely. Although I bought an ebay budget press, I have a nice one at home as well. If it works as well, that will allow my wife to help press shirts too :)

I'll post a review and continue to update if it performs and when it inevitably dies

If anyone else has had this press for a while, I would love to hear feedback

MM
Even if you get a new press, the electronics is still good on the other press. If it was me i would just weld it.
