I would like to do low volume high quality images on hats, T-Shirts and jackets. Presently I have a Canon PRO-100 which outputs quality printed images. Using dye sublimation would require another printer. What are the pro's and con's of the end product from ink jet and dye sublimation? Image quality is important. If dye sublimation is a direction to go what printers are recommended - 8.5 X 11 maximum size? Thank you.

Dye sub is far superior to inkjet printing for the application your talking about. Dye sub prints will outlast the material it is sublimated to in most cases.

For a dyesub printer...an Epson 3610 (1 paper tray) or 3620 (2 paper trays) is a good pick. Or a 7620, 7110 (2 trays) or 7610 (1 tray).
The 36XX are 8.5x11 printers and the 7XXX printers print up to 13x19"

Then you will need to get refillable cartridges and dyesub ink from a supplier (many people like cobra ink).

I have had multiple Epson R1900 photo printers. They have had ink clogging and printer head issues. Are the Epson 36XX and the 76XX any better?
We rarely have any issues with our Epson printers. Using both sublimation ink and pigment.

No dye sub wont work with cotton.

No, you cant print on standard sign vinyl with pigment or dyesub.
There are polyester based materials that can be sublimated...but they are expensive and not for outdoor use when using dyesub ink.

I would recommend checking out Cobra ink...people seam very happy with their inks (they have both pigment and dyesub as well as the refillable cartridges).
